CDIO welcomes four new schools - region Europe

CDIO council has accepted four new schools in region Europe as members of the worldwide CDIO collaborative: 

Åbo Akademi University
Åbo Akademi University is a multi-disciplinary Swedish-speaking university in Finland. The university has four faculties, the faculty aiming for CDIO is the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The faculty has a strong history in chemical engineering, but the main number of students has lately been moving towards information technology. The faculty has a strategic profiling of technologies for a sustainable future.     

Örebro University
Örebro University is a broad-based university with education and research in a variety of subjects such as medicine, humanities, law, sociology, engineering, science, business, music, sports, and hospitality. It hosts 16,000 students and 85 educational programmes, including both Bachelor and Master’s programmes in engineering as well as several PhD programmes in related fields. Situated in the demographic centre of Sweden, students are recruited from across the country and beyond. While granted university status as late as 1999, Örebro University holds a place in the 401–500 band in the Times Higher Education world university ranking and place 84 in the THE young university ranking. Focusing on the core subjects for engineering education, the university has research and teaching groups in computer science, mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, business administration, chemistry, and biology.

University of Zagreb
The University of Zagreb, founded in 1669, is the oldest operating university in Croatia and one of the oldest in Europe. As a comprehensive public Central European university, the University of Zagreb offers education and research in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural and social sciences) and a wide range of study programs at all levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate. With 31 faculties, 3 art academies and the University Centre for Croatian Studies, the University is the flagship among educational institutions in the country, a place where more than 7,500 teachers and 70,000 students expand their knowledge and skills. The University excels not only in teaching but also in research, contributing more than 50 percent to the annual research output in Croatia and 80 percent to the scientific productivity of all Croatian universities. The key strategic issue for the development of the University of Zagreb is a research-oriented institution with high-quality teaching.

Malmö University
Founded in 1998, is an innovative, urban and international institute of higher education, located in the centre of Malmö. We have around 1,800 employees and 24,000 students. Our research and education are characterised by the role we believe a university should play in an open society — to contribute to sustainability and equality in a scientifically grounded way with external partners and stakeholders. Identifying and addressing the challenges of the future are of highest priority. Our researchers and students work collaboratively to create, share and spread knowledge in order to understand, explain and develop society — both locally and globally.
