2. Graduate School of Engineering CESI, France
About the school
CESI was founded in 1958 by five leading French industrial companies who were seeking a way to help their high potential foremen and technicians to evolve, acquire new skills and develop their careers. Today, CESI is a top-level higher education and vocational training institution specializing in education and training for managers, supervisors, engineers, technicians and skilled workers. The Graduate school of Engineering has two brands : EI CESI (Industry and services, Civil Engineering) and EXIA CESI (IT). Our Master degrees in engineering are accredited by CTI (French Accreditation Board in Engineering) and EUR- ACE®, and the Postmaster degrees by CGE.
EXIA CESI was created in 2003 by Cesi in order to meet the needs of the computer science field. Back then the prospective works were predicting a growth of the demand by 200,000 jobs within 10 years in the computer science field, which represented 600,000 jobs at the time. This would make it one of the 4 major job creation field - i.e. Employment and education prospective report from the Department of Education and Research.
This increase in the demand meant that the qualitative aspect will also have to evolve and transform radically in terms of the skills required from a computer engineer. Indeed one will not only need to be able to solve a technical issue but will also need to have the capacity to improve, to be more independent, to have rigorous working techniques, to use the quality standards and especially to be able to communicate and fulfill the users expectations.
What goals do you hope to achieve by becoming a CDIO Member?
In 2015-2016 we aim to carry on implementing and adapting the CDIO approach in all our courses and programmes (including postgraduate degrees and executive postmaster degrees).

3. Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), Finland
About the school
Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences (UAS) in Finland. According to the legislation on universities of applied sciences, the main task of a UAS is to provide higher education leading to professional expertise for working life. In addition, a university of applied sciences should support economic and cultural development in its region by conducting applied research and development, and by carrying out and promoting artistic pursuits.
TAMK's educational provision focuses particularly on wellbeing and health, business, and industrial production, with special emphasis on promoting learning and creativity.
Tampere University of Applied Sciences provides bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, vocational teacher education, specialization studies and other education. For Finnish-speaking students, we offer about 40 degree programs in six fields of study. The studies can be completed on a full-time basis, or on a flexible, part-time basis alongside work.
Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering is one of the six Bachelor level programs in the School of Industrial Engineering in TAMK. Along with the six Bachelor level Degree Programs, School of Industrial Engineering offers two Master level Degree Programs.
What goals do you hope to achieve by becoming a CDIO Member?
We want to achieve continuous and consistent improvement process. The goal is to get everyone in the faculty actively participating in the development process. With the help of CDIO initiative we plan to tear down the walls between different courses so that faculty would work more as a team. It is easier to motivate students when they see the bigger picture and how things are linked together.
We also want to get closer to the local industry. We want to increase the amount of R&D projects done in our laboratories. Solving real life problems is motivating for the students and the faculty. At the same time we can benefit the local industry with limited R&D resources.
